7 Tips For Getting Back Into A Routine

All the summer fun is about to come to an end, and there is still a lot of uncertainty going on in everyone’s lives. But that doesn’t mean you need to stray away from what makes you happy and adjusting to the new normal. Whether you are working from home, or part-time working from home and the other working at the office, creating a routine may not seem like your top priority. But studies show that routines help ease anxiety and help with your overall mental health. Routines help you stay organized and focused.   


Start small   

Like a new year’s resolution, it is at the top of mind of everything you want to accomplish and include in your routine, but generally, after a couple of weeks, you lose motivation. By starting small and including one or two things a week into your routine, you won’t get discouraged or unmotivated. Be realistic and attainable.   


De-clutter your workspace  

A clean workspace reflects the state of mind. So, a clean workspace means you are constructive and productive. Pick things that make you happy, and help you stay focused. For me, it is my essential oil diffuser and a plant. What’s yours?   


Be kind to yourself   

If you miss a day of being out of your routine, be kind to yourself. Having a rough day, practice some self-care. It is okay not to be okay all the time.   


Get your kids ready for the new way of learning  

No one knows what is going on with school, but what we do know is that it will be different for everyone, preschool kids up to college-goers. Help your kids create a space for learning and developing a routine with them. Include them in family meal prep, have fun educational food experiments in the kitchen and maybe even ask them to cook you a meal!   


Spend some time outdoors   

The days are getting shorter and colder but take a few moments to enjoy what’s left of the beautiful weather. Sit outside and enjoy your cup of coffee before you start your day or 15 minutes at the end of the day before you cook dinner. Soak up the last few rays of sunshine.   





Eat seasonally   

The beginning of fall is a great time for local produce. Some summer fruits are still around, and the hearty fall squashes. Take some time this weekend and preserve some of your favourite fruits and veggies.  Download our seasonal guide to help you plan your meals and eat seasonally.   


Stock up on your fav snacks for mid-day pick me up

When I was working full time in the office, I always had my secret stash of snacks that I dug into on days I was hungry or needing a pick me up or needed to crush that craving. Sometimes I had in my drawer were smart treats, freeyumm crackers, think! Protein bars and of course, chocolate. Even though working at home, I have the kitchen just outside my workspace, having a drawer with my fav snacks keeps the routine of working at the office still in place.
