Clear dry, itchy skin with homemade face masks for the cold weather.

1. Oatmeal Yoghurt Mask (for dry skin)

Oatmeal makes terrific masks because they help hydrate your skin without making it oily. Add hot water to 1/3 cup oatmeal. Let it soften for about three minutes then add 1 tablespoon unsweetened plain yoghurt and 1 tablespoon honey. Yoghurt and honey will help revitalise, calm, and soothe your skin immediately. If you have very dry skin, add a bit more yoghurt and honey, but it works perfectly for all skin types! Leave it on for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

2. Coffee Honey Mask (for puffy skin)

Don’t toss out those used coffee grounds just yet. There’s a lot you can do with food scraps. Used coffee grounds in particular make excellent masks. Even though most of the caffeine content has gone to your coffee mug, there’s still enough left in the used coffee grounds to make that redness and puffiness go away. Take 1/3 cup coffee grounds, 1 tablespoon unsweetened plain yoghurt, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Add more lemon juice if you have oily skin, or substitute it with coconut oil if you have dry skin. Mix well and leave on your face for 20 minutes or until dry.

3. Egg White Lemon Mask (for oily skin)

Egg white is a Holy Grail ingredient for oily skins. It helps eliminate excess oil, tighten pores, and lift your skin. Take 1 egg white, juice half a lemon, then mix in 1/2 teaspoon honey to make your mask. Once it’s well mixed, it should be a little frothy. Leave it on your face for about 15 minutes or until dry, then wash it off with warm water. The lemon and honey both have antibacterial properties, and the mixture will help clear the skin, cut the oil without leaving your skin too dry.

4. Banana Honey Mask (for dry, rough skin)

Okay, seriously, is there anything banana isn’t good for?  Banana milk, banana tea, and now banana mask?! But it’s true, bananas are amazing for moisturising your skin. And all you really need is banana and a bit of water; however, if you’re feeling adventurous, add 2 tablespoons unsweetened play yoghurt and 2 tablespoons honey to really soften that baby up. Let it set for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

5. Avocado Coconut Oil Mask (for dry, rough skin)

Avocado is another culinary superstar, and it turns out it’s also fantastic as a face mask. Avocado mask has been endorsed by many celebrities, even Victoria Beckham. So if you’re looking to get Posh Spice’s glowing skin, go get yourself an avocado. And take that egg yolk you have left from the egg white mask, mix it in with half a mashed avocado and 1 teaspoon coconut oil and 1 tablespoon honey. Leave it to settle for 15 minutes before rinsing off the mask. Your skin will feel softer than ever.
