Determining what products are vegan and what ones are not requires you to read all the ingredients on the label, and figure out what they actually mean. Often it isn’t obvious that some ingredients in the product aren’t vegan, and learning what those are is very helpful. Fortunately, there is an app for your smartphone to help you with that. It is called Animal-Free and it has an extensive list of various ingredient names and lists whether they are vegan or not. As with all information, there may be some ingredients missing, so I suggest you Google any you don’t know to see what their status is.
I no longer drink alcoholic beverages; I did enough of that in the first half of my life to last me throughout the rest of my lifetime. But I am often asked if drinking alcohol is vegan and I can safely reply that it can be. Sadly, there are a lot of producers of alcohol who use animal derived filtration for their products when there are plenty of vegan alternatives.
However, with the advent of the communication era, there are websites that will help your search. The best site I have found which carries an extensive list of both vegan and non-vegan alcoholic beverages is http://www.barnivore.com. There you can quickly determine what drinks are acceptable and which ones aren’t. There are a couple of apps; VeggieBeers and Vegan Wines which can also help, though they may not be as extensive as Barnivore.
Happy Cow is a great app for finding vegan eateries wherever you go and Cruelty-Free can help with finding cosmetics and household cleaners that are not tested on animals. All of the listed apps or websites will help you as you navigate your vegan path. In no time you will find your favourites and no longer need an app to carry on with your vegan lifestyle.
